LATEST NEWS 2014 EmbARC DESIGN ACADEMY, LED BY OUR KIM SUCZYNSKI SMITH August 13, 2014

The EmbARC Design Academy , a summer program offered to high school students through the College of Environmental Design at UC Berkeley, completed its 3rd successful year on August 1st. Our own Kim Suczynski Smith directed the program leading 20 high school students through a unique studio program designed to teach common practices in sustainable design, urban planning and architecture. This year the intensive 4-week program built new homes for hens, ducks and wild turkey chicks at Spiral Gardens in Berkeley, using a design/build approach and capitalizing on the University’s fabrication shop, as part of the Academy’s architecture and urban planning segments. The new coop will allow the farm to double their population, which in turn will provide them with more eggs and fertilizer to help sustain the farm. Read UC Berkeley article.
