Kathy Kurtak has a balanced background in both architecture and urban design. She had worked on education projects for several years before returning to graduate school at Columbia University, where she received a master’s degree in urban design. She then worked for the Millennium Cities Initiative at the Earth Institute to assess slum conditions and propose improvement solutions in Accra, Ghana. Since joining PYATOK, she has worked on both rehabilitation and new construction projects including the Richmond Housing Authority’s HUD Demonstration Projects. Kathy enjoys working within the parameters of user and client needs, community priorities, regulations, and budgets to create well-designed environments that optimize the potential of available resources.
