Curtis is a Bay Area native and joined PYATOK 25 years ago specifically to accomplish the two most important goals of his burgeoning career: to work within a value-based organization that helps under-served people live in good homes, and to design and build lasting and equitable developments that support residents, their families, and the communities in which they work and serve. He has since led dozens of award-winning multifamily and mixed-use projects that serve seniors, families, students, persons living and thriving with disabilities, and those that benefit from special services to best suit their needs. With more than 35 years of housing experience, Curtis is an enthusiastic team player and relishes the opportunity to develop innovative projects that meet the unique requirements of each client's program and site with an appropriate economy of means.
Curtis's passion for multifamily housing developed during his studies at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he first met Mike Pyatok while obtaining his Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Design. His expertise later expanded into student and campus housing, and he has been instrumental in growing the firm's portfolio in this housing type. His expertise in campus development, services-enriched communities serving those with special needs, and all aspects of accessibility and universal design has led to speaking engagements, including a number of Department of Justice Fair Housing seminars, panels for San Francisco Planning and Urban Research (SPUR), and collaboration with the Division of the State Architect – Access Compliance.
Along with his role as a project director he has been responsible for the development of much of the firm's operations and management systems, including implementation of CAD, BIM, and other critical office information systems. Curtis is a leader in the senior quality control and quality management processes within the operations group.
Curtis has been an active participant in special programs with Disability Rights California, Habitat for Humanity East Bay, Rebuilding Together Oakland, the American Institute of Architects, the Alameda County Food Bank, and the East Bay Housing Organization (EBHO). Outside the office Curtis finds the ultimate relaxation and enrichment through numerous wilderness activities, photography, recording and performing many types of music, and volunteering as supporting performer with VOENA (Voices of Eve n' Angels), a professional youth choir based in Benicia, CA.
