Located on East 14th Street on the site of a former automobile dealership, this 60 unit affordable senior project was one of the first prominent affordable housing developments in San Leandro. PYATOK led a series of neighborhood workshops to craft a building that reflected the character of San Leandro and presented the right level of civic character on this important approach to downtown. A “Mediterranean” style 3-story façade with gated entry court addresses the street, stepping down to two-story wings that address the scale of the residential neighborhood to the east. These wings frame two landscaped rear courts with flowering trellises, and a vegetable gardening area. Secure parking is accessed directly from the shared courtyards. The building includes a multi-purpose room with kitchen, activity lounges, a laundry, library and beauty parlor.
