Block 48 of Hunters Point Shipyard is a highly-visible, sloping site overlooking Candlestick Cove. Based on the community vision set forth in the Design for Development, the proposed site plan is a modern interpretation of a traditional San Francisco hillside neighborhood. Two primary streets are linked by three south-facing pocket parks to create a grid of public spaces. On the lower level of the site, two- and three-story walk-up flats are accessed directly from the sloping streets, creating a classic pattern of small-scale buildings stepping up the hillside. Five-story, elevator-equipped buildings overlook the walk-ups with sweeping views across to the new Candlestick development. Generous roof decks with distinctive shade canopies create a shared outdoor amenity that takes full advantage of the spectacular views.
PYATOK, in association with Saida + Sullivan Design Partners (SSDP), is leading the design and construction of 307 condominiums distributed among 12 buildings. Based on preliminary schematic design work, the combined team worked with the Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure (OCII) and the Hunters Point Shipyard Citizen’s Advisory Committee (CAC) to develop an integrated neighborhood expression that allows each building to have a distinct architectural character. The mix of parking stackers and compact auto-pedestrian courts address the issue of a required parking ratio without disrupting the pedestrian-oriented streets.
