This two-block infill project on the Ocean Avenue Muni line is the culmination of a 10-year neighborhood planning process to bring a full-service grocery store and community outdoor space to this prominent site adjacent to City College.
PYATOK led parallel workshops with Westwood Park, Ingleside Neighborhood, and the Ocean Avenue Collaborative to reach a consensus on an urban village that includes a Whole Foods Grocery, urban plaza, community-serving retail, and mixed-income housing. Closely following the vision set forth in the 2005 Balboa Parks Station Area Plan, Avalon Ocean Avenue is a remarkable example of a private developer successfully fulfilling a well-conceived community plan, and has been recognized by the San Francisco Planning Department as setting the standard for the new mixed-use development in a highly sensitive San Francisco neighborhood.
